Automation Services is responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting for hardware, software and networking issues within the library. Automation staff also reviews the hardware and software needs of all library departments and recommends the necessary purchases for maintaining the information needs of library staff and library customers. Additionally, Automation serves as a liaison contact with technology vendors (primarily Innovative Interfaces) and other campus (Information Resources) and non-campus (ULAC/ANC) entities.
All issues with or orders for hardware or software should be emailed to the Systems Administrator.
Patrons experiencing problems with a personal computer (PC) or laptop should report the problem to the nearest service desk.
Once informed of a problem regarding a PC or laptop, staff members should report the problem to the Systems Administrator using the following steps:
Log onto the library’s homepage on Share Point.
Click on “Equipment Services.”
Click on “Computer Incident Form.”
Click on “New Item.”
Enter your name and the number of the PC or laptop experiencing problems.
Check the box corresponding to the location of the PC or laptop.
Select the date the problem is being reported.
Enter a brief description of the problem.
Click “Save and Close.”
To report a problem related to other equipment (e.g. the Information Channel or O’K Pager System), send an email to the Systems Administrator.
Automation staff will attempt to respond to requests within two business days giving top priority to equipment servicing the public.
Computer Usage Policy WSSU Patrons
Only patrons with a valid student account can logon to machines
Logon consists of: username and password
Patrons must log off using “X” at top of screen. Logging off is important for protecting patron accounts from unauthorized use.
Library is not responsible for lost work or use of accounts by other patrons.
All questions regarding passwords, valid accounts, and login information should be directed to Campus Help Desk.
City patrons (Non-students):
Patrons must be 17 or older. Anyone under 17 must be accompanied by an adult and registered under that adult using the name of the minor.
A valid ID or license is needed in order to register. Cannot use machines without valid ID.
Login may be obtained through the Technical Assistance Desk, Technical Personnel, or as a back up, Circulation.
Staff should check ID and record name, address, phone, license number, date, and time in database.
Once registered, Staff will log patron onto the machine.
Logoff is completed by clicking the “X” on the screen.
Computers logoff automatically after 15 minutes of idle time.
Visiting Patrons will NOT have access to machines in MEDIA.
