General Library Policies

Cell Phones
Cell phone conversations should be minimal. Persons are asked to put their cell phones on vibrate prior to entering the library. Text messaging can be completed if the phones does not ring, play music, or disturb others. When a cell phone call must be received, users are asked to move to the hallways leading to the restrooms, inside restrooms, the library foyer, or outside of the library.

All children who are actively involved in school related activities are always welcomed in O’Kelly Library. However, individuals under the age of thirteen (13) must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian at all times.
C.G. O’Kelly Library’s resources, media equipment, and computers are for educational purposes. Unlike a public library, academic library staff members do not supervise the use of the computers; all of the computers are connected to the internet and are unfiltered.

To ensure that ALL patrons are safe and that they have an environment conducive to study, the library staff requests that all users follow and adhere to the guidelines listed below:

Children under the age of 13 should not be sent to the library unsupervised and should not be left in the library alone at any time.

• Children are not allowed to use the library computers or media equipment for entertainment. Parents of young children should bring activities to keep their children occupied and entertained in a quiet manner.
• Children observed on computers, playing on the stairs, are loud, sarcastic or boisterous, and those who are just hanging around will be asked to leave the building.
• Parents with underage children should keep their children with them and make sure that they do not disrupt other library patrons.

Parents and guardians are responsible for their children’s protection and safety at all times while in the library.

Campus Police will be alerted whenever a child is left unattended in the library to ensure their safety and security.

Food and Drink
Food and drink are allowed in the library. Patrons are asked to keep the library clean and clean up after themselves.

Library Decorum
Library decorum is observed throughout the library. O’Kelly Library strives to maintain an environment conducive to research, learning, and study. This means that there should be no loud, disruptive behavior in the library that disturbs other patrons.

Meeting Rooms
Meeting rooms are scheduled by contacting the Library Administrative Assistant at (336) 750-2442 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. On weekends (Sat-Sun) patrons can reserve rooms by coming to the circulation desk. Rooms on the weekend are first come first serve.
