Subscriptions to approximately 2000 journals, magazines, and newspapers are provided in a variety of formats: print, electronic, microfiche and microfilm. The print serials will be housed on the 2nd floor East book stacks area as of Summer 2009. The microform collection (microfilm and microfiche) and a special reader/printer are located on 2nd floor West.

All serials, whether in print or microform, are shelved in alphabetical order by the journal title. Patrons need to consult the online catalog or the Browse Journals page to find out which journals the library owns. Current newspapers and popular magazines such as Time, Wall Street Journal, and Ebony are kept behind the Circulation desk and are available on request. Serials do not circulate outside of the library.

Full-text electronic journals are available through online databases such as Lexis Nexis, ProQuest Nursing, Academic Search Premier, and JSTOR just to name a few. All electronic journals are available both on campus and off campus. Patrons must have and use their WSSU email username and password (Banner ID #) to access the electronic journals off campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I request the library to subscribe to a new title?
This service is limited to the WSSU Faculty. Subscription requests must be approved by the department chair and then forwarded to the Serials Librarian for research and processing.

How can I find out what journals the library has on my particular subject?

Go to the Library’s homepage and click on Browse Journals. Scroll down to the view publications by subject option and select a subject from the drop down menu. You will see both the print and the electronic journals that are in the selected subject.
